If you a have chance to visit Sardinia out of season – then do it! Like most touristic areas in South Europe, the hottest months are July and August – hot, not only for the weather, but also for the prices and the crowds. So, by all means, if you can, avoid the busy high season and discover the REAL Sardinia that we love so much!
Sunbathing, sports and cultural activities are particularly pleasant from May to June and from September to October. In the winter, visitors in search of tranquility can experience mild temperatures, which rarely drop below 10 degrees. Check by yourself!

Option 1 – By car and Ferry
Ferries to Sardinia
If you are planning a trip to Sardinia and want to bring your own car along, we strongly recommend to book early in the season. Around March, most of the ferry companies propose discounted crossings from Italy main land to Sardinia. You can find good deals for car transfers and overnight trips in two- or four-people cabins. The most expensive connections are during the high season, i.e. July and August. The table below shows all available connections. Copy the link of a company and go straight to their website. Car rental companies
We recommend the international car rental companies which are located in Cagliari airport (e.g. Hertz, Avis, Europcar). The staff usually speaks English and the cars are reliable. We recommend booking a car from home early on, as it is more expensive on location. Also keep in mind that there may be a car shortage in the months of July and August, as well as at Christmas time. Expect longer waiting time (1- 2 hours) for car handover in these months too.
