A SECRET COVE NEAR CHIA … SHHHHH

If you are looking for a small creek which is not overly crowded, then Cala del Morto (Dead’s creek) near Chia is what you should be heading for. Its name is due to the presence of a cross between the rocks nearby, but the beach is absolutely secure.

How to get there:
Once in Chia, continue towards Teulada and when you arrive near the Hotel Chia Laguna turn left. After about 400 meters turn left again and leave your car at the parking lot behind the beach of Porto Campana. At this point, take the path on your left looking towards the sea for another few hundred meters. And there it is, the small sheltered Cala del Morto, one of the most beautiful places in the Bay of Chia.

GIROTONNO – CELEBRATING THE SEA RIDERS

Girotonno 2019 – Celebrating the rider of the sea

Discover tuna tradition and culture in a corner of paradise, the Sulcis Iglesiente, in Carloforte, Sardinia! From 30 May to 2 June 2019 the Girotonno will take place: four days of culture, arts, food, wine, music and entertainment.

For example there will be a Tuna Cuisine Competition with chefs from six nations, who will prepare stunning tuna dishes, or the Girotonno Live Cooking event in which national and international chefs prepare food live, comment and invite the public to taste their original tuna-based creations.

Carloforte in San Pietro Island possesses the last tuna trap in Italy. Every year from April to mid-June the passage of the Bluefin tuna is intercepted in the west of the island, where fishing is always fruitful, full of emotions and history. Despite its fascination, it has to be said that this fishing tradition has become controversial and raises lots of questions about the ecological sustainability, given the lack of tuna in the world…

Coltellazzo Spanish Tower

Nora-X-SITOYour visit to the archaeological site of Nora (near Pula) can be completed with a visit to the Tower of Coltellazzo, a Spanish construction placed on top of a volcanic promontory. The Tower, built by Philip II between 1580 and 1610, was part of a defensive system set up by the Spanish to defend their territories from the incursions of the African Berbers.

Today, the monument hosts a lighthouse. Although it cannot be visited inside, the climbing up to its entrance makes all your efforts worthwhile: the view from that point embraces on one side the Gulf of Cagliari and on the other the ruins of Nora and the hills of Santa Margherita. An easy walk for a later afternoon.

Fairs, markets, etc – Market in Pula

vegetables-1403062_640

Remember that the local market in Pula is every Tuesday from 8:00 – 13:00.

Why not stock up on fresh fruit and vegetables from the local farmers? You will also find a great selection cheeses, olive oil, honey, flowers and much more. It’s fun, it’s colorful and you get to meet local people too.

The market is located in Via XXV Aprile in Pula, just next to the sports center (a large white building you can’t miss), almost at the end of town when coming from Chia.
