DO YOU LOVE FISH AND SEAFOOD?

There are several good fish & seafood restaurants around Chia, South Sardinia, where you can taste fresh delicacies of the sea! For example, try a selection of seafood antipasti such as the pulpo with vegetables, the tuna salad with olives and tomato or the mixed seafood antipasto! To complete your meal you must try the wonderful redfish Catalan style with onions and tomatoes. All this accompanied by a fresh Vermentino wine….Mmmhhh… So delicious!

Our favorite fish & seafood restaurants are the rustic Trattoria da Angelo in Domus de Maria, and in Chia the amazing and lively Ristorante Mirage, the wonderful Ristorante Bithia and the chic Ristorante Crar’è Luna. Make your choice and enjoy!

A GREAT PLACE TO TRY THE GRILLED PIGLET SARDINIAN STYLE

If you are staying in the Chia area, you probably haven’t missed the sign of the Ristorante Bithia, just on the main road to the beaches. Well if you have asked yourself whether you should give them a try, our answer is you should!

This pretty restaurant is open for lunch and dinner and welcomes families with children as well as small groups. Depending on the weather you can eat either in the lovely garden or in the large patio. For cooler days, they also have a few tables inside.

Now let’s talks about their specialties: here is the place where you should try Fregola (a coarse type of couscous) with seafood, fish and meet (e.g. beef ribs) on the grill. On the menu you will also find cutlets, salad dishes and hamburgers. During the summer you can savor the delicious grilled Maialetto Sardo (piglet) which will be served every Tuesday – book in advance! In any case, don’t leave before having tried their delicious desserts, for example the Sfogliata Chantilly (layers of puff pastry with whipped cream and seasonal fruits) and their homemade Sebada (traditional Sardinian fried pastry filled with fresh cheese and honey). Yummmm!

If you have any doubts, just ask the lovely waitress Frederica, which is always friendly and helpful in describing the dishes, even in English.
For bookings contact Ristorante Bithia, Viale Chia 6, 09010 Domus de Maria, Phone +39 0709230069. They also speak English!

SOUTH SARDINIA BEACHES – SA COLONIA CHIA

Sa Colonia beach is characterized by a large stretch of white-amber sand, bathed by the emerald and crystalline water and shallow shore, which are so typical of this area. On the left side of the beach you will see the Tower of Chia, while on the left rises the Monte Cogoni. Behind the beach are the beautiful dunes and the lagoon of Chia.

How to get there: From the main road of Chia, follow the signs for Torre Chia, take the last road on the right, go straight to the end until you find the parking. Alternatively, instead of turning to Torre Chia, turn right into the next street (Via del Levante), which runs alongside the lagoon, until you get to the parking. From there continue on foot to the beach.

Services (in the summer): bar, toilets, sunbeds and umbrellas rental, parking, canoe, pedalo, jet ski, excursions, diving, snorkeling and sailing.

Our tips: out of season, free parking and less crowded; avoid in case of Mistral; no seagrass.

SNORKELING IN CHIA BAY

With its 1800 kilometers of coastline, Sardinia is a paradise for those who love diving and snorkeling. In its seabed you can discover ship and aircraft wrecks as well as archaeological finds, which now seem like they always belonged to that world.

If you are staying in South West Sardinia we recommend the Chia Bay, a golden dream beach with stunning crystal clear waters and a rich underwater world. The high sandy dunes, the charming islet of Su Giudeu just in front and a beautiful beach… What else could you ask for? Welcome to paradise!

A BIT OF LOCAL ANCIENT HISTORY

cThe objects of greatest interest are those found during the excavations in the sixties and eighties in Bithia that brought to light interesting pieces of historical and cultural value such as the sandstone statue of the god Bes, a bull-god represented with the right arm raised to greet the sacred “betili” stones that ancient people laid in the areas of worship.

To enrich the collection of the museum are mainly the archaeological finds from the ancient necropolis of Bithia, near the Tower of Chia, from common pottery to flask-shaped containers dating from the sixth century BC. Several rooms of the museum are dedicated to more modern handicrafts and local produces.

The museum is located in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele in Domus de Maria and open daily in the summer, upon request for the remaining of the year. Open daily in the summer; upon request for the rest of the year. Entrance: 1,60€; no reservation required.

ROMANTIC HIKE TO THE SPARTIVENTO LIGHTHOUSE

To celebrate the Autumn, which has just arrived, we highly recommend a romantic but easy hike to the old lighthouse at Cape Teulada or Capo Spartivento.

This wonderful starts in Chia. Just follow the road to the beaches and leave your car in Cala Cipolla (last beach), a marvelous spot among sand dunes and juniper trees. The panoramic ascent takes you up to the lighthouse in about 30 minutes. Built in 1866 and sticking out about 60 meters above sea level, the lighthouse of Spartivento has been recently restored and transformed in a luxurious 5-star hotel. Nevertheless, this magical place has lost absolutely nothing of its original beauty. It is well worth a visit for its stunning views and the picture-postcard scenery !

TAKE ME THERE!

It might have been the Costa Smeralda with its millionaires, models and mega-yachts that made Sardinia internationally famous, but if you want to explore the real Sardinia and its untouched nature, get away from the glitzy Porto Cervo and travel to the south of the island.

Take the Chia area as a base and from there discover the splendid south-western coast – white-sandy beaches adorned with junipers, fragrant maquis and spectacular views will just take your breath away! Explore the lively little town of Pula, visit the local artisans’ shops and relax at one of the cafés around the large piazza… ohhh, while there, don’t forget to visit the historical site of Nora and its gorgeous beach just outside town.

RESTAURANT CRAR’E LUNA – ATTENTION TO DETAIL, A PASSION FOR FLAVORS

The restaurant Crar’e Luna’s in Chia was recently completely refurbished and transformed into a stylish and elegant venue. Its objective is to represent the hospitality and friendliness of Sardinia. Its building and atmosphere underline many details and shapes that speak of the island. The stone, wood, pastel colors, the music, the garden, the palate … everything here feels Sardinian.

Their original menu includes delicious dishes such as the Lemon perfumed risotto with seafood, Spaghetti with bottarga (cured fish roe) and zucchini flowers and Fresh grilled fish.

Ideally located near Le Dune beach (15 min walk), it is a perfect location for a nice lunch. At night, the elegantly dressed tables in the manicured garden and the moonlight shining over the beautiful sea create a stunning setting for a romantic evening.

DUNE DI CAMPANA BEACH: A DELIGHT FROM SUNRISE TO SUNSET

The beach of Dune di Campana is surrounded by centuries-old junipers and very fine, white sand, which enriched by sea lilies, seems to shine. But the real point of attraction are the sand dunes, which can reach up to 20 metres high. Note that it is strictly forbidden to walk on the dunes!

With its shallow and stunningly transparent waters, Dune di Campana beach is ideal for families with children. Snorkelers, scuba fishing enthusiasts and divers will love this exceptional location, while on a windy day, it becomes the perfect spot for wind and kite surfers.

The beach has many facilities and is wheelchair accessible. It has a large car park, café, restaurant, camping as well as water sport equipment. To reach the beach, drive in direction of Chia, turn at the junction for Capo Spartivento and follow the signposts that point towards the beach.
