Coltellazzo Spanish Tower

Nora-X-SITOYour visit to the archaeological site of Nora (near Pula) can be completed with a visit to the Tower of Coltellazzo, a Spanish construction placed on top of a volcanic promontory. The Tower, built by Philip II between 1580 and 1610, was part of a defensive system set up by the Spanish to defend their territories from the incursions of the African Berbers.

Today, the monument hosts a lighthouse. Although it cannot be visited inside, the climbing up to its entrance makes all your efforts worthwhile: the view from that point embraces on one side the Gulf of Cagliari and on the other the ruins of Nora and the hills of Santa Margherita. An easy walk for a later afternoon.

NORA – THE VERY FIRST CITY OF SARDINIA

Spring is the perfect time to book an excursion to the ancient ruins of the very first city of Sardinia, Nora. The theater, the baths, the patrician villas, the market and the tower evoke a glorious past, which was never forgotten.

In the streets of this city you can rediscover the old urban wisdom, merchants’ trading and the art of the peoples of the ancient Mediterranean. You will also visit the charming town of Pula with its great shopping and lively nightlife.

SNORKELING IN CHIA BAY

With its 1800 kilometers of coastline, Sardinia is a paradise for those who love diving and snorkeling. In its seabed you can discover ship and aircraft wrecks as well as archaeological finds, which now seem like they always belonged to that world.

If you are staying in South West Sardinia we recommend the Chia Bay, a golden dream beach with stunning crystal clear waters and a rich underwater world. The high sandy dunes, the charming islet of Su Giudeu just in front and a beautiful beach… What else could you ask for? Welcome to paradise!

RARE FORMATIONS IN THE CAVE IS ZUDDAS

While in South Sardinia don’t miss a visit to the impressive karst cave of Is Zuddas! It is a true temple of nature where time has created a fairy-tale world. Along the 500 m long route you will discover beautiful and sometimes massive concretions such as stalactites, stalagmites, lava and cannulas. However, the main feature of the cave are the rare and eccentric aragonites, made of very white filaments spreading in all directions, defying the law of gravity.

The cave Is Zuddas is located in the south-west of Sardinia near the village of Santadi. It provides a splendid backdrop created by the incessant action of underground water.

CALA LUNA – A MAGICAL MUST-SEE ON THE EASTERN COAST

The spectacular Cala Luna beach is a long stretch of fine white sand featuring several stunning caves as well as a transparent and shallow blue sea. It is located north of Arbatax and south of the Gulf of Orosei, a short distance from Cala Gonone, where you will find the mind-blowing caves of Bue Marino.

The beach is easily accessible by boat from Cala Gonone. Adventurous travelers can hike along the road of Golgo (near Baunei) and then take the downhill path to the sea. The reward: sensational views!

This is also a great excursion if you travel to the South and your check-in is late in the afternoon, or if you have a few hours to spend before embarking on the ferry in the North of the island.

PURE JOY OF THE SENSES – PORTO TRAMATZU BEACH

Are you looking for a day of adventure combined with some me time on the beach? Then we strongly recommend an excursion to Porto Tramatzu near Teulada, on the south coast of Sardinia.

The beach of Porto Tramatzu is one of the very best location in the area. Its white and soft sand is bathed by a stunning turquoise and crystal clear sea, the seabed is shallow and slopes gently to the shore. The fancy beach club is very well equipped with elegant sunbeds (some are super-sized!), free bathrooms and showers, changing rooms and a bar, which serves light lunches.

If you fancy some action, ask Alessandro, the very friendly chap who rents water equipment on the beach. They have a large choice of rubber dinghies, some of which can be rented without license, pedalos, canoes and jet skis. You can also ride on the Banana boat for the thrills or join a guided boat tour, which will lead you to secluded and pristine beaches, which can only be reached by boat.

If you are staying in the Chia area, take this opportunity to discover the panoramic road to Teulada! The view on the coast and the beaches below are absolutely breath-taking and well worth the trip. On the way, you can make a stop on the spectacular Tuerredda beach, just for the pleasure of the senses. Enjoy and share your comments if you like!
