The countryside around Domus de Maria is very rich in fig trees, especially in the hamlet of Chia. These trees define the landscape and the fruit is appreciated and consumed since ancient times. To promote the history of the fig tree and the local community, which has always cultivated it with love and commitment, the town dedicates two days to the food, economic and ancestral relationship between the locals and the production of the fig.
On Saturday 25 June you will have the opportunity to taste and buy figs in Piazza degli Scolopi in Chia (the right road after the bar L’Incontro) and in the evening celebrations will continue with music, songs and dances performed by local folk groups.
On Sunday 26 June local farmers will expose their produce on Viale Chia and Viale del Porto, thereby opening their doors to the visitors. From 11:00 am – 9:00 pm don’t miss the chance to visit for free the Tower of Chia, which will be open on this occasion.
